Abstract : In this paper we address the consequences of the massive introduction of renewables for the future of power systems. Deriving a coherent approach suitable for long-term power systems analysis, we establish the link between future grid options mandatory to maintain technically plausible operation of power systems, physical factors and security of supply of fuels and sourcing of raw materials at an affordable price.
