Deep Aquifer Sampling and the Use of Ball Check-valves Systems

Abstract

Investigations using deep water sampling systems are reported for the Albian aquifer, Paris Basin. Two wireline samplers and one ball-check valve sampler were used to determine fluid physico-chemical parameters, concentrations in major and trace elements and dissolved gases concentrations. Some physico-chemical parameters (e.g. temperature) of the fluid are affected by the use of a deep sampling system whatever the sampler used. Fluid chemistry can be characterized with a good confidence level. Dissolved gas concentrations are more difficult to accurately evaluate but it can be demonstrated that ball-check valves systems may help to improve to such measurements.
