Résumé

The first objective of the France Nord project was to identify in the deep saline aquifers of the Paris Basin a geological site providing a storage capacity of at least 200 Mt of CO2 during 40 years of injection. This level of capacity is considered as appropriate for a project of industrial size. The chosen site has to satisfy the following criteria: * the reservoir must have geographical, geological and petrophysical properties for storing large volumes of CO2 safely on a very long time; * the reservoir has to be deeper than 1000 mbgl to minimize the volume of the storage; * the aquifer has to be undrinkable and unsuitable for agricultural use due to its salinity (salinity > 10 g/l); * it should not have any risk of interaction with potential third surface or subsurface activity.
