Géoprospect "Time Dependent": démonstrateur d'atelier en géoprospective - Geoprospect "Time Dependent": a computer workshop fo geoprospective studies

Geoprospect TD is a set of computer codes constituting a so-called "showing workshop" for geoprospective studies. It has been developed at BRGM, from the geoprospective concepts of the past 10 years and belong to the line of tools that have been developed since 1984 (Castor, Herode, Castor PC, Geoprospect). The concept Geoprospect TD is improved in parallel with research, carried out in collaboration with the Laboratoire de Recherche en Informatique (Informatics Research Laboratory) of the University of Orsay on the application of Artificial Intelligence techniques to the field of geoprospective. The two lines of research are complementary and in time will enable the design of operational tools for simulating the future evolution of the geosphere. This paper, in the first instance, will present the key concepts of geoprospective, especially: - relationships between phenomena and time scale, - definition of geographic scales (global, regional and local), - topology of relationships between different-scale processes. Next, the conceptual bases on which Geoprospect TD is founded will be explained. These concern: - notions of landscapes and inheritance, - the coupling of phenomena; consideration, model limits, restrictions, - the "SAD" concept (Scenario-Actor-Director) in geoprospective research. The architecture of the system will then be briefly described so as to illustrate the instanciation of the above concepts. The paper will end by illustrating some of the results obtained and outlining the directions to be followed in future research.
